QUENTIN HIX - DIRECTOR
My approach to helping clients is trying to focus on the big picture, then identify the most practical way to achieve that goal. I take quality of service as a given and I think it is incumbent on your lawyer to do more than just “tick the boxes” for you. I find that a practical, relaxed, open approach is the best way to get results.
I was born and raised in South Canterbury and I’ve been a lawyer for over 25 years now. After a time as a partner in a Timaru Law firm, I branched out on my own in 2004. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to gain experience in a broad range of legal areas, from commercial to criminal to relationship property to name a few. I’ve also been fortunate to serve as a professional director on a number of organisations, public and private; commercial and charitable. Rather than specialize in any one area of the law, I’ve built a team of experts so I know our clients are getting the best possible service we can provide.
TIM JACKSON- DIRECTOR
I started my law career in the early 1990’s, graduating LLB (Honours) from Otago University then working in Timaru, including a period prosecuting with the Crown Solicitor’s office. I joined the Quentin Hix team after a 10 year hiatus from practice during which I held management and consulting roles whilst also acting as an employment advocate.
I specialize in criminal, employment and civil litigation. In litigation, the practitioner’s role is not confined to case preparation and courtroom skills: assisting clients is a predictive exercise and requires a holistic approach encompassing risk management.
NINA MACKAY - DIRECTOR
I am originally from Nelson but have worked in Timaru since 2001. I have extensive experience in rural, commercial and residential conveyancing including subdivisions and estate planning. I have 15 year’s experience in the law and bring sound realistic advice to clients.

I grew up on a lifestyle block just outside of Timaru and have spent most of my time in and around South Canterbury.
I completed my law degree at the University of Otago in November 2016 and professional studies in early 2017.
I began working for Quentin Hix Legal Limited as an intern over the 2015-2016 Summer and then took on a full time role as lawyer. I am interested in general litigation work including criminal, employment and family law.
